June 2024 newsletter

We hope you have all had a lovely May.  Treetops has been its usual busy self as you will see throughout the newsletter.

Our Commitment to the Community has been an integral part of the past few months and all of our successes could not be possible without your support.  We would like to thank you so much for your support in helping us to not only raise awareness for this wonderful charity; ‘Promise Dreams’, yet also for contributing towards our £600 fundraising target. We are so proud to share we have currently raised £445 and this is not counting our ‘Charity Shakers’.

Support also comes from the heart, mankind's innate compassion and a desire to help and in today's modern society support also comes through the platform of social media, …please read below about how compassion and social media combined led to 5.3 thousand people clicking ‘share post’, enabling Promise Dreams to do what they do best and create a ‘Dream to Come True.’

On the 3rd May Promise Dreams received an urgent ‘Dream Request’ and they were determined to make it come true.  Anesu, 8 years old, had a terminal illness and had been given only a few days to live and it was his dream to receive a video request from Mo Salah or as many of the Liverpool players as possible. Promise Dreams placed a post on social media and this was shared 5.3K times across lots of different platforms.

Yes you are right …this resulted in many of the Liverpool players (full video is not for public viewing only for Anesu and his family) paying tribute to Anesu via video testimonial.  The dream came true and Anesu got to see the video before he sadly passed away on the 6th May.

Promise Dreams said ..as a very small charity they have never felt so big with thousands of people behind them helping them make it happen.

We are incredibly proud to be supporting Promise Dreams.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy June.

Team bonding

The key to a good dental practice is taking the time to talk as a team outside of work and just decompress! That's why we took the time to have a little get together to celebrate a recent win we had for an in- house dental competition at the Puzzle Escape Rooms in Cannock. We all had a fabulous time. We found our way out of 'The Tunnel', we defused a nuclear bomb in 'The Nuke' and our team of detectives hunted down a serial killer in 'Murder in NYC 2'! Followed by an amazing meal in Podge and Tin restaurant in Cannock courtesy of our lovely Practice Owner Polly Bhambra, Thank you Polly from the whole team!

Winners of The Puzzle Room were Technician Steve, Nurses Lexie, Emma, Beth and Dentist Vis! Teamwork at its finest!

National Smile Month

National Smile Month is a charity campaign all about championing the benefits of having good oral health and promoting the value of a healthy smile.

Maintaining a healthy smile should be simple but for so many this can be very difficult.

Despite the many improvements in oral health over the last 40 years there are still inequalities.

This is why between 13 May and 13 June 2024, we are posting lots of advice on our social media pages on how you can keep your Oral Health in tip top condition. Why not give us a follow!

It has been five months since we revolutionised our Hygiene appointments so we wanted share with you a quick update!  We asked one of our wonderful Hygiene Therapists, who a lot of you may know, our lovely Kaye some questions...

Why did Treetops decide to change the length of the hygiene examination?

We decided to change the length of our appointments from 20 minutes to 30 minutes so we could incorporate the latest BSP (British Society of Periodontology) guidelines and to educate our patients and involve them even more in their own Oral Health journey.

What can a patient expect in a 30-minute appointment?

Each patient might experience a different 30 minute appointment compared to other patients as everything depends on their clinical needs.

As a team we devised a new protocol which would involve and educate our patients as much as possible. At first we disclose a patient by popping a solution on the teeth.  This highlights any biofilm or plaque deposits. We show this to the patient in a mirror and then go over their brushing technique and their interdental cleaning so they are better equipped to remove this plaque deposit at home. We then take intraoral photographs of their teeth to show exactly where they are missing. We will then take a plaque and bleeding score; this gives the patient a percentage number, allowing us to  work with them to reduce this to under 20% and under 10% percent or to simply congratulate! We then do a clean with either; Ultrasonic Scaler, hand scalers or if you are lucky our new EMS machine. We then carry out a screening process to check for any gum disease or periodontal disease. Finally, we do an Oral Cancer Screen and inform the patient of the findings during that examination.

How have patients benefited from the new hygiene examination?

Initially when we extended the appointments a few of our patients had questions as to why we had changed what they were so used to. Any reservations were quickly overcome when they actually received the treatment and the protocol was explained.  The patients have shared how they feel more involved and educated and really appreciate the extra time we spend with them.

How have the clinicians benefited from the new longer hygiene appointments?

As a hygiene team we have benefited  by giving more time to educate our patients, as education is key to prevention. The extra time allows us to engage more with our patients, showing them where they need to improve to reduce their plaque and biofilm and then allowing us to routinely monitor.  In addition, we also  complete all the necessary Oral Cancer screens, pocket charts and assessments that are so important. We are such a 'patient first' practice and this allows us to deliver what our patients deserve and to watch our patients oral health improve.

Denplan really is the most cost-effective way of being a private Treetops patient.

April`s 2024 'Denplan Awards Winner' saved over a massive £2422.00 over the last 12 months by being a Denplan member!

What would you spend your savings on?

The most regular question we are asked is, 'I have been a patient of Treetops for years, am I still allowed to join?'

The answer is YES!

Offering patients the option of budgeting for their dental care has allowed us to support our patients to keep their dental health a priority and we will continue to do this.

We therefore invite all of our patients who are not on one of our dental plans the opportunity to join.  Our private fees increased on January 1st 2024 and this highlights even more, the savings you can make by being a member of Treetops Denplan.

If you would like more information or to simply register, please call our friendly reception team.

I do hope you're having a great weekend and here's hoping the weather has finally turned and we are able to sit out in the garden for some much needed vitamin D boost!

This month while the weather has been dreary, I have been focusing my attention on Video Testimonials. You may of spoken to me already but just in case our paths haven't crossed yet let me explain...Your Dentist or Hygienist have put their thinking caps on over the last few weeks and have recommended some of their patients they think would be amazing in front of the camera. Patient Video Testimonials are a fantastic way to show people that visiting the dental practice really isn't that bad!

Thank you so much to all the patients who have already become a Treetops Star and to those who are booked in for their movie debut. If any of our readers would like to sit and chat on camera about their experiences with us just pop an email to me; assistant@treetopsdentalsurgery.co.uk  and I will arrange this for you.

Have a fabulous June!
